“Happy New Year,” Cassie said softly, staring at morning sunrise from the front porch swing, a warm mug of tea cradled in her hands.

It wasn’t said to anyone in particular, or so one would think if they saw her keeping this annual tradition once taught her by her mother.

Even if her mother wasn’t with her anymore, even if it was just Cassie sitting there on the porch in the quiet, heart full of prayers and cherished unspoken hopes, she wasn’t alone and Someone was there on the other end of her heart, making the sun rise.

“…be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” — Hebrews 13:5b NKJV
