“Gotcha!” The guide caught Anna by the rope attached to her harness before she could slide further.

She clung pitifully to the rock face but there were no easy handholds to pull herself up.

“It’s okay,” the guide reassured. “Let go of the rock and hold onto the rope like I showed you.”

At the start of this trip. Right.

It took so much willpower to force her fingers to uncurl from her uncertain grip. She wanted to hold herself up and keep herself from falling, but the only way to steady ground was with his help.

She let go.
