“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2 NKJV
Chaz was already sitting on the front porch steps when Tren arrived, a cool morning breeze nipping at his face and arms. He pushed up his glasses to better see his friend. Chaz’s shoulders were hunched and his gaze trained steadily at his shoes.
Tren blinked, trying to think of what might have prompted this. Finally, he sat down gingerly on the step beside and just waited.
“Dad called,” Chaz said after a long moment.
Dad. Not his stepfather.
“He didn’t want to talk to me.”
Tren didn’t say anything, just stayed with him as long as he was needed.
