“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 7:14
Watch enough documentaries about America today, and you begin to get the impression that we seriously need a revival. The wicked need to repent and turn to God, the government needs a dose of remembering what our country was founded on, and the entire nation needs to remember that in God we trust.
But that is not where Scripture points us to look for repentance.
“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” – 1 Peter 4:17
God asks His people, who are called by His name to repent of their wickedness. His people who are called by His name are Christians.
It is not the politicians who need to repent. It is not the judges who need to repent. It is not the atheists who need to repent. It is not the sinner next door who needs to repent. It is you and me who know what God asks, even demands, of us who need to repent.
It is His people, the Christians. It is His house that needs to be cleaned up of sin. It is with us that judgment begins and with us that prayer must begin and with us that repentance must begin.
