Jesus Calling and the related books by Sarah Young can almost seem like a franchise: get the devotionals, get the journals, just make more money off of each installment. In practice, however, there is nothing commercialized about the words each book contains.

Jesus Calling: Morning and Evening is organized with two entries for each day of the year, one for the morning and one for the evening. There is often a challenge in the morning—

“Walk by faith, not by sight. As you take steps of faith, depending on Me, I will show you how much I can do for you.”

—that is echoed in the evening reflection—

“Unscramble your thoughts from the day with a shift in perspective. Meditate on who I am, God with you.”

Each day’s message is written as from our loving Father God and is well-cited with Scripture. I find the book is helpful to me in keeping my mind focused on God throughout the day and what He is doing in my life. Each beautiful word reminds me of His love and my desire to walk with Him.
